
Stefan Sanders, conductor
Austin native Stefan Sanders left home at the age of sixteen to attend
the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan. He received his
Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from The Juilliard School
in New York City. Prior to graduating in 1999 he was appointed to the
trombone section of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He has recently
joined the conducting staff of the Buffalo Philharmonic as its Apprentice
Conductor. In summer of 2008, he was appointed as the Music Director
of the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Sanders has performed with many Orchestras all over the world, most
notably the Seattle Symphony, the Florida Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic,
the Jeunesse Musicales World Orchestra, and Japan’s Pacific Music
Festival Orchestra. Two of his most treasured experiences were playing
for the Seattle Opera’s 2001 production of Wagner’s Ring
Cycle and playing with Elton John in Radio City Music Hall.
As a trombone soloist, Mr. Sanders has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic,
The United States Army Band and Orchestra, and the Juilliard Orchestra.
In 1997 he gave the world premiere of Eric Ewazen’s Concerto for
Bass Trombone and Orchestra in New York’s Avery Fischer Hall.
He later recorded the work for the Albany Records album entitled Bass
Hits with the Prague Chamber Orchestra.
Mr. Sanders is a founding member of Metalofonico, a contemporary brass
ensemble, and The United Brass. He has recorded albums with both of
these ensembles. Mr. Sanders can also be heard on the Buffalo Philharmonic’s
recordings for the Naxos label.
